Provide a ‘Helping Hand’ with the Gift of Light

by Preston Knight, Communication Manager

It’s the holiday question Debora Menefee asked herself and then answered several years ago. What do you get parents who have everything?

Electricity, Menefee says. Specifically, a gift certificate for it through SVEC.

“They have a house full of stuff,” she says of her parents. “What else do they need?”

SVEC offers electricity gift certificates starting at a $5 minimum. You decide the amount you want to give another co-op member to help lower a wintertime electric bill. In return, SVEC will credit the recipient’s account and prepare a certificate to either be mailed to the gift recipient or sent directly to you for personal giving.

You can remain anonymous.

Menefee has proudly supported her parents for several years. She orders certificates for the holidays, but the co-op offersthem throughout  the year.

“I think it’s a great program,” Menefee says. “It’s a nice surprise to people, especially for our seniors. Things are getting so expensive everywhere. It’s just something I like to do because I don’t know what else to do.”

The certificate tells the recipient the exact amount to expect as a credit on their electric bill. Orders for gift certificates must be received in co-op offices by Friday, Dec. 15, to be processed and mailed before Christmas. Contact SVEC at 1-800-234-7832 to place an order and raise someone’s spirits this holiday season.

“Everybody needs a helping hand every now and then,” Menefee says.
