VMDAEC Education Scholarship Foundation
If you are a high school or home school
senior, you may qualify to apply for the Educational Scholarship offered
through the VA-MD-DE Association of Electric Cooperatives. To
be eligible, the primary residence of your parent(s) or legal
guardian(s) must be located in a service territory of a VA-MD-DE
Association’s electric cooperative member.
The Foundation Board selects scholarship recipients
and scholarship amounts that are awarded based on three major criteria:
financial need at 40%, academic achievement at 40%, and a personal
statement at 20%.
This year, the VMDAEC Educational
Scholarship Foundation received 212 applications from students in areas
served by electric cooperatives in Virginia, Maryland and Delaware. From
these, the Foundation selected 48 applicants to receive Worth M. Hudson
Scholarships in the amount of $1,000 each and two applicants to receive
C.D Hypes Memorial Scholarships in the amount of $1,000 each for a total
of 50 high school seniors. Over the past 13 years, 409 students from
throughout Virginia, Maryland and Delaware have received a VMDAEC
Educational Scholarship. The number of scholarships awarded each year is
based upon funds available and these grants can be used towards the
payment of tuition, student fees and room or board or the purchase of
books.
