VMDAEC Education Scholarship Foundation
VA,
MD & DE Association of Electric Cooperatives Educational
Scholarship
Foundation
High school seniors whose
parents/guardians are customer-members of an electric cooperative in
Virginia, Maryland, and Delaware, and whose primary residence is served
by the cooperative, are eligible to apply for college or technical
school scholarships awarded by the Virginia, Maryland & Delaware
Association of Electric Cooperatives (VMDAEC) Educational Scholarship
Foundation.
Recipients are chosen based
on financial need (40%), academic achievement (40%) and
personal statement (20%). Applicants must provide evidence of acceptance
in a post-high school educational institution or program. The
scholarship funds are sent directly to the educational institution and
placed in the student’s account. These can be used to pay for tuition,
fees and books.
In 2011, the VMDAEC Educational Scholarship Foundation Board
awarded 30 scholarships totaling $30,000 to deserving students
throughout Delaware, Maryland, and Virginia. Since its inception in
2000, 319 students have received VMDAEC scholarships totaling $228,500.
The Foundation is funded through tax-deductible donations from
individuals and VMDAEC member electric cooperatives, and also from
proceeds of events such as the annual Educational Scholarship Foundation
Golf Tournament. The number of scholarships awarded each year is based
on the funds available.
